🧸 Higgy Bears: A Friend for Kids with Scoliosis
At 13, Lauren Higginson was diagnosed with scoliosis—curvature of the spine—after a routine school screening. She spent the next decade and a half dealing with both the stigma of deformity and the physical pain of surgeries and braces.
Lauren’s full story is here, but what really struck us is the turning point that came before her 30th birthday. In her own words:
“Why did I have to feel so alone, for so long, when there were so many people out there that were just like me? Why did I have to feel like I was the only one? How can I keep other kids from feeling this way?”
And from that moment, Higgy Bears was born—a soft, lovable friend designed specifically for kids going through the same journey she had. Whether it’s a brace or spinal rods, Higgy Bears are made to match what these kids are facing, so they feel seen and less alone.

Today, Higgy Bears is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that's distributed over 25,000 bears to children in 150+ countries. We’re honored to share that Plush in a Rush is now one of their official sponsors—meaning some future Higgy Bears will begin their journey right here in Dallas.
Hats off to Lauren and her team for turning pain into purpose—and for making sure no kid has to feel alone.
We were lucky enough to attend and help film HiggyCon 2024—a heartwarming, high-energy event that celebrates kids, community, and scoliosis support. You can watch the two-part video series below:
